June’s Director’s Report

Welcome to June!

It’s almost summer, and we have some exciting news! This year, in July and August, the Library will be open on Saturday mornings! We’ve been hearing for several years now that at least a few weekend hours would be welcome, especially for those working families that just don’t have the opportunity to visit us during the week. So, we’ll be open and ready to welcome everyone from 10-1 on Saturdays. Our weekday hours won’t be changing, so if you are a weekday visitor, we’ll be here as usual Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10-5 and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-7. We’ll also be out and about in town, so look for our library pop-ups throughout the summer!

A pile of colorful books

Speaking of summer, we’re gearing up for our summer reading program which starts in June for kids and teens. The teen kickoff event is our annual Henna and Ice Cream which will be happening on June 9th, and our kids’ kickoff event will be happening with a hugely fun Jungle Jim show, Stomp, Chomp and Readon June 26.  Kids and teens can pick up their reading logs at these events, and join in the fun of our theme, Plant a Seed, Read! We haven’t forgotten about the adults either; look out for your chance to participate in summer reading fun after Independence Day.

And speaking of July 4th, look for the Library marching in this year’s parade! As we celebrate America’s 250th, we’ll also be celebrating the freedom to read! We hope we can entice friends and families to join us and march with the Library!

And speaking of friends…the Friends of the Manchester-by-the-Sea Library is gearing up for their annual book sale! Two book drives will take place on June 13 and July 11 when you can donate your used books in good condition at the MERHS parking lot. These donations will help support the annual sale which happens on Saturday, August 1 during the Festival by the Sea.

Be sure to check our calendar frequently so you don’t miss any of the exciting and fun events we have planned for the entire summer! And come visit us to pickup piles of summer reads!

See you soon!
