February’s Director’s Report
In seed time learn, in harvest teach, in winter enjoy.

I hope you are all finding ways to enjoy this brutal cold we are experiencing, whether that means venturing outside (fully bundled up!) to play in the snow or snuggling under a blanket reading by the fireside! Some of you are definitely doing the former as all our snowshoes are currently checked out from the Library of Things. Plenty of you are doing the latter and embracing the hygge spirit with our Nordic neighbors. No fireplace to cozy up to? Come to the library and enjoy the fire in our reading room. We have stayed warm and toasty and were able to provide a comfortable space for some of our community who lost their power last week.
If you’re not feeling up to venturing out in the icy temps, remember the library has many virtual offerings that you can enjoy from home. Keep up with the news online through our virtual newspaper and news magazine subscriptions; take armchair journeys through our online National Geographic platform, or stream a movie on Kanopy, where you’ll find everything from timely documentaries, to classic escapes. Our Morningstar Investing Center can help you stay on top of your investments, while Linked In Learning can help you pick up a new skill. All these and more are available through our website; just click on the Resources tab to explore.
And while not everyone is super happy with the winter weather, may we suggest two solutions: creativity and community. The library can help you with both. Participate in our Tiny Art show during the month of February or attend one of our many programs: a wonderful Mindful Doodling Workshop with artist Cara Bean happens on 2/10, teens are invited to make Disco Snails (what?) on early release day (2/4), and kids will have lots of fun making paper masks during a special vacation week program (2/17). Check our calendar for these and lots of other programs (including S’mores and More!)
One final note to help you feel good this winter, we have a light therapy lamp you can check out from our Library of Things. Stay sunny!
Warm winter wishes,
Cynthia
