April’s Note From the Director

Hello all!

April is upon us and while the days seem longer, we are busier than ever here at the library. If you follow library news, you’ll have heard that in mid-March an executive order was issued that will essentially dismantle the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). What does that mean for libraries in Massachusetts including our library here in Manchester? Access to databases and the Commonwealth Catalog (which allows readers access to books not owned by our consortium of local libraries) are just two of the services at risk with the loss of federal funding from the IMLS. To learn more about this issue and find out how you can speak up to support libraries (and museums!), look here.

We’re planning! Staff from the library are embarking on a listening tour in preparation for our next strategic plan, and we want to hear from you. If you have a few minutes to answer a few questions, get in touch. Call, email or stop by to set up an appointment-we won’t take much of your time, we promise! Also, if you’re in the neighborhood, come in and add your thoughts about the future of the library to our post-it board. Just post your answer to our one question.

Check out the rest of the newsletter to find out more about how we’re celebrating National Library Week (April 6-12), and how you can join in the fun!

See you soon at the library!
