Admission into colleges and Independent High Schools has never been more challenging. Now more than ever, a distinctive, compelling personal statement (essay) is often the difference between not only being admitted or not, but also in receiving financial aid.
Even as cost and competition has increased, so too have applications, and thus admission committees are frequently overwhelmed, and have to make very quick decisions.
It is therefore more important than ever — when many schools are foregoing standardized test scores, and nearly all students have similar GPAs and extra-curricular accomplishments — that your child’s personal statement quickly and emphatically presents them as the unique and dynamic person they are.
Why Marci Darling?
When I work with students, my goal is to help them uncover the sacred narrative of their accomplishments thus far in their lives, in a fun and engaging way. Together we learn to weave a personal story so compelling, a busy distracted reader will be pulled into the story and read to the end. Learning the process of writing a deep soulful essay can be transformative, unlocking a student’s potential and giving them a toolbox for writing all future essays, both personal and academic.
I am a long-time educator with a Masters Degree in Education from Harvard. Over the past twenty years, I have worked with numerous students to help them convey their unique purpose in a manner that will give them the best opportunity to attend the school of their dreams. While no one can guarantee admission, I have successfully assisted students gain admission to their top choice schools, including: Harvard, Vanderbilt, USC, UCLA, NYU, and various medical schools and graduate programs.
Additionally, I am a successful author myself, having published 4 books and written numerous articles.
But, my biggest accomplishment is being a mom to my 15 and 17 year old kids, Henry and Annabelle, who are both attending Pingree High School this fall, with my daughter in her Senior year as Student Body President.
It’s, of course, better to hear from those with whom I’ve worked than myself, so here are just a few of the many testimonials I’ve been honored to receive
Marci is a gifted writer and communicator. She helped my daughter find her authentic voice and shepherded her through the college essay writing process seamlessly. Thanks to Marci, my daughter got into her dream school, USC! We highly recommend Marci Darling!!!

Marci helped me get into my dream graduate school New York University. Marci's suggestions for my application and essay were invaluable. It gave the reviewers insight into my personality, strengths, and commitment to achieving an advanced degree. I would use Marci again if I decided to pursue my doctoral degree.
Tanya Schornack, University Alumni Coordinator
I had the privilege of working with Marci on my college admissions essay for Vanderbilt University. There can be overwhelming pressure when completing college essays -- I found it difficult to express who I was, my goals, and why I should be admitted to an exceptional university. Marci helped me find my voice and the perfect way to express my desire to attend Vanderbilt University. She was encouraging, supportive, and truly inspiring. I would highly recommend to anyone who is going through the college admittance process to work with Marci. She will ease the stress of the admissions process and help you find your perfect voice. She is an amazing mentor.

Marci Johnson has a special knack for writing a college entrance paper. She got me accepted to UT (University of Texas, Austin), my daughter into her dream school-University of Utah and my other son into UCLA. She understands what colleges are looking for and completely nails the entrance letter. I can’t wait to hire her to advise my last two children‘s admission essays. So far she’s batting a thousand!
