Beginner Mushroom Specimen Identification
Due to the expected bad weather this program has been moved to Seaside One in Manchester.
On Thursday, July 8th at 5 PM on the library’s front lawn, Gary Gilbert of the Boston Mycological Club will introduce you to mushrooming identification and how fungi function in the ecosystem. Using real mushrooms, he will explain the macroscopic terms & features used in all the field guides, followed by a brief tour of the major genera of mushrooms explaining how those features play out in different groups.
Gary is an architect and builder who began studying mushrooms in the Pacific Northwest in the '80s. He is an identifier and lecturer for the Boston Mycological Club and a board member of the North American Mycological Association. He originated the idea for "MycoCards.com" mushroom identification flashcards which are a new learning tool for fungal study. He is also an amateur chef with recipes soon to be featured in the "Fantastic Fungi" cookbook being issued in 2021. He regularly teaches classes on fungi identification and leads walks in the Cape Ann area of Massachusetts.
