Shut Up and Write!–
Shut Up and Write!
Shut Up and Write!
Starting Wednesday, February 10th from 10:30-11:30 (ish), 2021
Remember that novel you started writing seven years ago? Is it time to finish it? Maybe you want to write your first screenplay? Pour some poems onto the page? Settle into a daily writing habit?
Join a community of writers and artists who just want to write (part of a larger community you can explore at https://shutupwrite.com). No need to share, no need to critique or be critiqued. Just write in the company of other writers. If you like, join our facebook group and keep the conversations going throughout the week.
Here’s how it goes: Join the Zoom meeting. Say hello if you want. Check in with a writing partner or breakout group if you’ve chosen to have one. Check out the prompt or challenge of the day, but feel free to ignore it if you are working on your thing. Write. Stay the full hour or leave early. Hang out after if you feel like socializing. That’s it.
Some details:
- We meet weekly, but no one is taking attendance. If you want to join once a month or whenever you feel like it, that’s fine.
- Yes, it’s on Zoom until further notice. Someday we’ll be able to gather in person again, and at that time, Zoom will still be an option. (Don’t worry--You never have to get out of your sweatpants if you don’t want to.)
- You have the option to join a breakout group or private chat with a partner if you want to share ideas, discuss daily writing habits, get feedback, or report briefly on your progress over the course of the week.
Why Shut Up & Write Works (from shutupwrite.com)
Accountability & Habit Formation
One of the most successful techniques for developing a new habit is to commit to a specific day, time, and location when you will follow through. By making the commitment to show up for your writing at the same time each week, you are able to turn one hour of focused writing into a stable routine that yields remarkable results.Social Motivation & Support
Studies have shown that even the smallest sense of belonging increases performance on a variety of tasks. When you show up for a Shut Up & Write event, not only are you supported and motivated by everyone else writing around you, you are also a part of a community of writers all over the world. -
