Manchester-By-The-Sea Public Library Capital Campaign

One hundred and thirty five years ago, the world saw its first automobile, Albert Einstein was born, and War and Peace hit the shelves. 1887 also happens to be the year when Thomas Jefferson Coolidge donated the building that the Manchester Public Library calls home.

Since then, the Library has become a lively hub of our community, serving as a nexus for learning, information, entertainment, youth services, and social interaction. It brings to life the written word, audio and visual media, and connects us to the rest of the planet — and to each other.

Today, modern libraries like ours provide more information and access than ever before, reaching beyond our walls to provide a range of services from across Massachusetts and beyond. A few of the things our library now offers include:

  • Access to books in Massachusetts libraries and beyond
  • A cozy place by the fire to work on a puzzle
  • Storytime for our children
  • Friday night movies
  • Audio book downloads
  • Free digital music
  • Magazines in printed and digital formats
  • A park bench to enjoy just being in Manchester

The Board of Library Trustees’ 135th Anniversary Appeal asks for your support to ensure the continued enjoyment of resources like these. Funds collected from this capital appeal will fill in the gaps between the town’s budget and support from the Friends of the Library. The Trustees are working on creating a new Young Adult seating area, updating the website, sprucing up the grounds, and maintaining the clock tower. With your help we can fulfill these needs.

For your convenience, you may make your donation online or by mail:
