Abolitionists, Sanitary Commissioners, and Writers: North Shore Women during the Civil War

Revisit amazing stories about Civil War heroes on Thursday, October 25th at 7 pm, women’s history scholar Bonnie Hurd Smith will visit the Manchester-by-the-Sea Public Library to tell the stories of women from the North Shore who served as nurses, worked on sanitary commissions, raised funds, and nursed their wounded men. As part of the national commemoration of the American Civil War, Bonnie will share the stories of Sarah Parker Remond, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Kate Tannatt Woods and Hannah Rantoul, North Shore women who did their part and left behind a legacy of honor and service to our nation.
