Summer Volunteen Program - Applications Now Available

Current season, Summer 2008, Volunteen Application are available on the
bulletin board between the Children’s Room and Reference / Young Adult
Room. Volunteens are a volunteer opportunity for students who have or
will have completed grades 6th -12th by the close of the school year.
The commitment is to volunteer for a total of 15 hours over the course
of the summer. Orientation will be held for all volunteens in early June
with Sara Collins, Youth Services, at the Manchester Public Library. The
volunteens often participate in a variety of tasks adjusted by need,
interest, and ability. Over the course of a typical summer, the group
will provide at total of 150-200 hours of volunteer work assisting with
children’s summer programs, making displays, shelving books, photocopying,
inputting computer data, etc. The contribution made by the
volunteens allows us to have a very busy summer reading program for the
hundreds of children who participate in our summer programs. The
experience gained by the students fulfills the volunteer requirements of
many schools and provides a good beginning at collecting work experience
and building a resume for that time. Please contact Sara Collins with
any questions, 978 526-2016 or scollins@mvlc.org. The best experiences
have been had by students who pick up their own applications, return it
(by the end of May, please), and follow through on the process themselves.

Great Books!     Good Conversation!     Fun People!

Students take turns nominating books. Readers are welcome to read either or both of that month’s featured books. Families join as this is a hands on group to continue to share reading with your children as their interests and reading levels change.  Currently meetings includes two books to pick from each month. We welcome families and will borrow additional needed copies of the books. Stop by the front desk to check out a family copy and read one before our next meeting. If interested speak with Ms. Collins (978) 526-2016, or scollins@mvlc.org
