    Come to the Library on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at noon. On the MEMS early-release day, book lovers in grades 6-8 will meet to talk about… BOOKS!

    Wondering what to read next? Have an awesome book that you would like to tell the world about? Join us and share a slice and advice. Please bring one (or more) of your favorite books to discuss.

We invite adults and children, with varying numbers and abilities each week, all are welcome. Please join us whether to work, chat, learn or teach. This is a great time to enjoy indoor activities and crafts!

    Movie Night~Murder on the Orient Express

    The library will be showing a film on Friday, March 9th at 5:30 PM featuring a star-studded cast that brings to life the one of Agatha Christie’s most famous mystery novels starring her observant Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. Set in the 1930’s, a passenger train traveling to London from Istanbul becomes derailed when an avalanche strands it and its passengers high in the mountains. When a sudden murder occurs, the celebrated detective races against time to pick apart the unusual puzzle surrounding the victim’s death and solve the crime before the killer can strike again. This movie stars Kenneth Branagh, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Judi Dench. Bring your own drink, the Library will provide popcorn. This movie is rated PG-13 and anyone under 13 must have a parent or guardian fill out a permission slip available at the Library's circulation desk.

    Monthly Sunday Book Sale

    The Friends of the Manchester Public library will be providing a mini book sale on Sunday, March 11th from 1 PM to 3 PM. The book sale carts will be filled, arranged, and staffed by a Friend of the Manchester Public Library to provide a great opportunity for some new and old books that support and supplement library programs and services.

    Manchester Reads to Kids Marathon

    Join guest readers in the Children's Room for continuous story time fun! Stay for one or stay for ALL! Everyone is welcome to join us!

    Please note: This is the last day for the Boston Bruins PJ Drive. Share the love and donate a new pair of children's pajamas ! from babies to big kids, there's nothing nicer than new PJs!

    Teen Advisory Board Meeting

    Join the Manchester Public Library’s Teen Advisory Board and have a say in what happens at YOUR library, have some fun and earn Community Service hours!

    Our next meeting is March 14, 2018 at 6:30 PM in the Library.

    TAB offers suggestions and help in making the Manchester Public Library a fun and exciting place for teens. Board members are advocates for the YA program and collections. Applications are available at the library.

    This past year the members designed and ran the Escape the Library program, went on a shopping spree at Barnes and Noble, helped with the Summer Reading games and programs, and created the reader’s advisory cards that can help you find your next read.

    Movie Night~Stronger

    On March 23rd at 5:30 PM come see the movie based on the memoir written about of the difficult aftermath of a victim of the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. Boston native Jeff Bauman became a symbol of hope after he helped the police identify the Boston marathon bombers when he was injured in their attack. His struggle continued as he attempted to recover from the devastating trauma of losing his legs and moving forward with a new and difficult chapter of his life. This movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Tatiana Maslany, and Miranda Richardson. Bring your own drink, the Library will provide popcorn. This movie is rated R and anyone under 17 must have a parent or guardian fill out a permission slip available at the Library's circulation desk.

    Boston Marathon: History by the Mile with Paul Clerici

    This year's Manchester Community Reads events continue on Thursday, March 29th at 6:30 PM with a visit from author, journalist, and runner Paul C. Clerici. Paul will discuss the history of the Boston Marathon and explore the stories behind notable marathon landmarks, statues, and mile markers throughout the course. He will cover the cities and towns along the 26.2 miles between Hopkinton to Boylston Street, and reveal the route's historic moments from the first marathon in 1897 to the naming of Heartbreak Hill and the incorporation of women runners. Paul C. Clerici is a freelance journalist, writer, photographer and former newspaper editor and sports editor. A dedicated runner, Clerici has competed in the Boston Marathon more than 20 years in a row.
