    Poetry - Literary Workshop with Tim Averill

    Tim Averill will lead an evening workshop of poetry, allowing for examination and discussion of a poem. Averill was the founder of the debate team in Manchester and English Chair AP Teacher from 1971-2005 before coming to Waring School in his retirement. His classes in poetry have been described as “contemplative, illuminating, and really fun.” The Manchester Public Library has enjoyed seasonal poetry events for years with Sara Collins, Head of Youth Services, fostering the writing and enjoyment for children and adults. This literary event for adults and older high school students will be a key program for April, National Poetry Month. Please contact Ms. Collins to register at scollins@mvlc.org or 978-526-2016.

    Mother Goose Story Time

    YA Robot Building Workshop Wednesday, April 2nd @ 12:30-2:30PM

    If you are a gadget geek, science nerd, budding engineer or other electronics-obsessed teen, come build a robot with us. The R.I. Computer Museum folk will explain basic circuits and instructions on how to build a simple robot. You will learn programmable electronics, instructions for making lights blink, motors run, create sounds and a lot more. Bring your broken electronics and we’ll take them apart with you to learn about circuits. Grades 6-12 welcome. Group is limited to 16.     Discovering New England Stone Walls

    Meet Kevin Gardner will be will give a detailed account of the cultural and historical aspects of New England’s craft of placing stone and how the different styles that emerged and changed over time is significant to the famous New England landscape. Kevin will balance this with a discussion of restoration techniques, design, acquisition and preservation of the walls. During the program he will demonstrate the building technique by using tiny stones to create a miniature wall or walls on a tabletop. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Manchester Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency (www.massculturalcouncil.org).

    Mike Cross from the Northern Essex Community College Speaker's Bureau will discuss which chemicals elicit biochemical reactions in the human brain, making chocolate the perfect drug. During the presentation, you will learn how to taste chocolate for quality and how to eat it, too!

    On Saturday, April 26 at 10:30 AM, the Manchester Library will hold another hands-on workshop for iPads, Apps, and iTunes synchronization led by Edward McFadden of Glade Mountain Consulting. Please bring your own iPad to participate. The Library has a couple iPads for anyone who does not yet have an iPad.
