    YA Valentine Zentangle Workshop

    Zentangle is an easy to learn method of making beautiful images from repetitive patterns. Join us and we’ll tangle and make Valentines to give to someone special. Grades 6-8 welcome. You snooze, you lose. Supplies are limited.

    Knitting & Crocheting Plus

    All who enjoy knitting, or crocheting, or other needlework, are welcome at the Round Table on Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 PM at the Manchester Public Library! The group will meet through the winter.

    We will often have experienced knitters or crocheters on hand. Do join in whether you like the craft, company or if you would enjoy just a pleasant hour of relaxing needlework. Some supplies are at the library; bring your own projects, too. We currently have a good supply of knitting needles but could use a few crochet hooks and some good yarn.

    Movie Night: Bridge of Spies

    Enjoy a suspenseful historical drama directed by Steven Spielberg set during the Cold War. Tom Hanks plays an American lawyer recruited to defend an arrested Soviet spy in court which then leads to being involved with the CIA to facilitate an exchange of the spy for a captured American spy plane pilot. This movie also stars Mark Rylance and Alan Alda. Bring your own drink, the Library will provide popcorn. This movie is rated PG-13 and anyone under 13 must have a parent or guardian fill out a permission slip available at the Library's circulation desk.

    Soup's On Throwdown

    Soup’s ON! Cookbook Throwdown #4
    Love trying new recipes? Want to try more than just one at a time? Our next Seasonal Cookbook Throwdown will be at the Manchester Public Library on Saturday, February 6th at 2 PM. The library has borrowed many copies of two different soup cookbooks, Soup Night and Soup Club, available at the front desk. Check one out, try a recipe, then come back and sign up to make that for the throwdown. The library provides, cups, napkins and spoons for the event and we’ll have fun taste testing all the entries before voting on the best. Winner gets serious bragging rights and a $25 gift certificate. Warm up with some yummy soup and enjoy trying new cookbooks at your library.

    The Manchester Public Library has cookbooks at 641.5 in new non-fiction, same number in older non-fiction, and has loads of magazines for cooks both novice and experienced. Try out Cooks illustrated, Cuisine, Bon Appetit, Cooking Light, Vegetarian Times and many more. All past month magazines can be checked out and may yield yummy results for you!

    Pajamas & Popcorn Movie Night: Cinderella (2015)

    The whole family is invited to wear your pajamas, eat popcorn, and watch movies together at the library! All children must be accompanied by an adult.

    Cinderella (2015): When her father unexpectedly passes away, young Ella finds herself at the mercy of her cruel stepmother and her scheming step-sisters. Never one to give up hope, Ella's fortunes begin to change after meeting a dashing stranger. Rated PG.

    Chinese New Year Celebration

    Celebrate the Year of the Monkey on Wednesday, February 17th at 1 PM! Come to the library to enjoy crafts and a very special storytime with Susie Lord. Then, join a dragon parade that goes to the Manchester Historical Society for more Chinese New Year fun!

    Tech Talk on Streaming Magazines

    On Thursday, February 18th at 6:30 PM come by the Library to get an introductory look at how you can get access to free magazines on your computer or mobile device through the Library using Zinio. Manchester residents can access this digital magazine service with over 30 subscriptions to popular and specialty magazines such as ESPN, Newsweek and Boating that are identical to the print edition. It also includes a keyword article search, audio and video. It has unlimited downloads and no checkout period. You can download it onto your computer, Android, iPad, Nook and Kindle. To check out this or other resources, go to www.manchesterpl.org/virtual-library/ or call (978)526-7711. Many of these resources will require a separate log-in using your Library card number. Please contact the Library if you do not have access to those.

    Nonfiction Book Group

    Nonfiction Book Group
    The next meeting of the Nonfiction Book Group is Monday, February 8 at 5:00 PM. (Note new winter time). The group will discuss The Narrow Edge: a Tiny Bird, an Ancient Crab and an Epic Journey by local naturalist, Deborah Cramer.

    The group will be discussing the Modernism Art World of 1900 Paris on March 14.

    The April 11th meeting will be covering the Crash of 2016.

    New members are always welcome.
