    Mother's Day Gift-Making Workshop

    Join us at the library for a Mother's Day Gift-Making Workshop, Wednesday, May 2nd @ 12 PM.

    It's MERSD Early Release Day, and we will make beautiful gifts and cards for your favorite mom. She'll love her new jewelry!

    Grades 6-12 welcome. Only while supplies last so don't be late.

    Friends of the Library Annual Meeting

    Friends of the Library Annual Meeting
    On Wednesday, May 2nd the library will close at 6PM and at 6:30 PM the Friends of the Library will hold their annual meeting at the Manchester Historical Museum. The public is welcome to attend to hear about the full list of services and contributions the Friends give to the library, as well as how to join and become a Friend. After a short business meeting at 7:00 PM the Friends will welcome local guest speaker Laura Harrington who is the author of “Alice Bliss”, a Boston Globe bestseller, and her newest novel “A Catalog of Birds”. Laura is an award winning playwright, lyricist and librettist. She won the 2012 Massachusetts book award in Fiction. Refreshments will be served.

    Teen Advisory Board Meeting

    Join the Manchester Public Library’s Teen Advisory Board at 6:30 PM in the Library. Have a say in what happens at YOUR library, have some fun and earn Community Service hours!

    TAB offers suggestions and help in making the Manchester Public Library a fun and exciting place for teens. Board members are advocates for the YA program and collections. Applications are available at the library.

    This past year the members designed and ran the Escape the Library program, went on a shopping spree at Barnes and Noble, helped with the Summer Reading games and programs, and created the reader’s advisory cards that can help you find your next read.

    Beautifully Delicious

    Beautifully Delicious: Feasting from Liz Barbour's Cookbook

    Liz Barbour’s first cookbook is here and she is excited to share it with you at the Manchester Public Library! Beautifully Delicious is just like it sounds; recipes that create beautiful dishes using colorful, flavorful ingredients – but better. Enjoy a slide presentation featuring Liz’s beautiful recipes and her edible gardens. She’ll tell you all about the creative process of her book and share some of her favorite recipes. Following her discussion Liz will demonstrate two delicious recipes from the book and give out tasty samples. Books will be available for purchase.

    Slide presentation and cooking demonstration. Space is limited due to nature of the event, please register promptly for this program at scollins@manchesterpl.org or by calling Manchester Public Library at 978-526-7711. This program is sure to appeal to gardeners, cooks, adults, and teens and is just in time for Mother’s Day.

    Movie Night ~ The Post

    Come by the library on Friday, May 11th at 5:30 PM to see the historical drama starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks as they battle for the right to print classified documents, despite the risk of being barred by the government. Katharine Graham, the first female publisher of a major newspaper in the country, and her editor-in-chief Ben Bradlee, attempt to use their newspaper to publish the “Pentagon Papers”, classified documents regarding the 30-year involvement of the United States government in the Vietnam War. This movie stars Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks and Sarah Paulson. Bring your own drink, the Library will provide popcorn. This movie is rated PG-13 and anyone under 13 must have a parent or guardian fill out a permission slip available at the Library's circulation desk.

    The library will host a community seed swap on Saturday, May 12 at 11 AM. The library will have seeds to share and encourage participants to bring seeds as well.

    Movie Night ~ Goodbye, Christopher Robin

    May Movie Night
    On Friday, May 18th at 5:30 PM the library will show the British biographical drama about the famous author A. A. Milne and his son whose name is famously recognized as the best friend of beloved children’s literary character, Winne the Pooh. This film depicts Milne’s challenging journey as a WWI vet suffering from PTSD, and how his relationship with his son inspired the creation of Winne the Pooh and the characters and their stories that enchanted England, and eventually the world. When Milne’s books become an unexpected international success, new challenges arise that test the strength of the family. This film stars Domhnall Gleeson, Margot Robbie and Kelly Macdonald. Bring your own drink, the Library will provide popcorn.

    Seaside Saturday at Manchester Historical Museum: Teddy Bear Tea!

    You and your Teddy Bear (or other special friend) are invited to a story time and tea. The program will include stories, songs and a formal tea for you and your Teddy Bear served on the Museum's Blue Willow China! Space is limited and registration required for this event.     Pumpernickel Puppets

    John McDonough and his beautifully crafted puppets will present two classic tales: The Three Billy Goats Gruff & The Lion and the Mouse. This 40 minute show will be held at the Manchester Historical Museum and is suitable for children ages 3+ Refreshements will be served at the Library after the performance.

    Greenbelt 75: Seventy-five years with the New Deal

    On Thursday, May 24th at 6:30 PM local documentary photographer Robert Coppola will come by the library to give a presentation on the historical government subsidized housing project in Greenbelt, Maryland founded during the New Deal era. Coppola will discuss how this project was intended to provide a model of Greenbelt towns located outside urban areas with significant changes in town planning and housing design. As part of his 75th anniversary documentary he will also provide historic photographs and commentary to illustrate the planning, landscape architecture and sculpture as it exists today. Robert Coppola’s work as a documentary photographer is included in the collection of The Library of Congress and The Boston Public Library. He was teaching at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design since 1976 as a full-time professor before retiring in 2017.
