    Book Signing & Author Talk with Local Author Shannon Kirk

    The Library will welcome local author Shannon Kirk for an author talk and book signing on Thursday, September 10th at 6:30 PM to discuss her popular book Method "15/33". Shannon has been honored three times by the Faulkner Society in the William Faulkner-William Wisdom Creative Writing Competition for her works "Heavens" (2012 finalist), "Method 15/33" (2013 finalist), and "Impossibility of Interplanetary Love" (2014 short-list finalist). When not practicing law, she writes in her free time for several genres: literary fiction, suspense/thriller, and young adult. Shannon is a member of International Thriller Writers and Mystery Writers of America.

    Saturday Story Makers with Susie Lord

    Story time for children up to 8 years of age. Books, crafts, music and fun for the whole family! Children must be accompanied by an adult. No pre-registration required.

    Tech Talk: Kid Edition

    In addition to the Library’s physical collection there is a digital collection called the Virtual Library with free resources that are available from home and accessible at any time. To show you what we have available we will have Saturday Tech Talks once a month to give an introduction on how to use the sites and what they offer. On Saturday, September 12th at 2 PM, Miss Kate will give an overview of the back-to-school educational resources we offer in our Virtual Library.

    Wordsmiths Book Group - Fall Session

    This is the second session of the Wordsmiths Book Group for children in grades 4-5. By this point, readers are expected to be at least halfway through the book (up through Chapter 10). We will meet and discuss our impressions of the book so far. Session should last about 40 minutes. Please register in advance by calling 978-526-2016 or email Kate at kstadt@mvlc.org. Our book for the Fall 2015 session will be The Magician's Elephant by Kate DiCamillo.

    A long-time married couple who've spent their lives together in the same New York apartment become overwhelmed by personal and real estate-related issues when they plan to move away.     Pirate Day!

    Arr, mateys! We're partnering with the Manchester Historical Society and Susie Lord for a celebration of all things piratical in honor of National Talk Like a Pirate Day! Pirate Day starts at the library, where Susie Lord will hold a pirate-themed musical storytime at 10 AM. We also will have craft, activity, and food stations outside on the library lawn during and after Susie's storytime. Then follow the sidewalk-chalk plank across the street to the Manchester Historical Society and join in a performance of sea chanteys at 11 AM, followed by building your own personal pirate ship toys. And don't forget to pick up your scavenger hunt treasure map....... the map will lead you all over town! We will be collecting the completed maps a week later and awarding prizes to those buccaneers who stay the course!

    Comics Workshop with Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb

    Nationally-known comic book artists Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb of the "Adventure Time" comics fame will be conducting a hands-on comics workshop for aspiring teen artists. They will bring their own art supplies, so all you need to do is come with a willingness to create! For high-school and middle-school students only. Please register in advance.

    Author Talk with Elisabeth Elo

    The Library will welcome local author Elisabeth Elo for an author talk and book signing on Thursday, September 24th at 6:30 PM to discuss her popular book "North of Boston". Elisabeth grew up in Boston. She worked as an editor, an advertising copywriter, a high-tech project manager, and a halfway house counselor before getting a PhD in American Literature at Brandeis University. Since then, she’s taught writing and literature in the Boston area. Her essays and short stories have appeared in a variety of publications. She lived next to the ocean for many years and now resides in Brookline, Massachusetts.
