Library Closure

Please refer back to this page in the near future as the library is assessing
what services they will or will not be able to provide to the public during this closure.

As part of the COVID-19 response the Library will be closed until further notice. The Library Trustees will evaluate reopening based on the status of the Coronavirus situation at that time.

During the closure the Library staff will continue working behind the scenes to keep up with regular library duties. If you have any questions or concerns, you are welcome to email staff at info@manchesterpl.org. Please expect a reply within 24 hours.

Please be aware of these current updates:

  • The Manchester Board of Selectmen and the Manchester Board of Health have declared a State of Emergency in Manchester-by-the-Sea on Monday, March 23rd 2020 due to the ongoing impact COVID-19. For more information please click here: MBTS State of Emergency
  • Want to access our Digital Resources during the Library Closure but you don’t have a library card? Apply for one by clicking Digital Library Card Registration and following the detailed information! If you have any questions please email info@manchesterpl.org.

To help the Library with the closure, the Library graciously asks that you take note of the following information listed below:

  • Please no donating items or returning library materials until Friday, May1st. This is to help the library with space issues as returned items cannot be sent back to owning libraries as the Massachusetts’ Library delivery system has been shut down. Please note that the Manchester library is fine free so you will not be charged for any overdue items.
  • Because the virus is known to survive on a surface for 72 hours, library book drops will be closed locked to help avoid spreading any contamination. Please keep library materials until the library reopens.
  • As the library’s physical collection will be limited during this closure, please utilize the library’s digital resources. eBooks, Audiobooks, movies and TV shows along with many other resources are available for free from the comfort of your own home. Please contact the library if you have any questions on how to use any of the services.
  • All March and April programs have been cancelled or suspended until further notice.
  • The town is planning on disinfecting the library in the near future to help stop the spread of any infected surfaces or materials.

We thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time!
