Support Your Library!

While core services of the Manchester Public Library are tax based, there is always need to supplement the Library’s income in its mission of serving the community, and gifts to the Library enjoy the same favorable tax treatment as donations to charitable organizations. If you would like to consult with the Library Director about a gift, please call Dorothy Sieradzki at 978-526-2011.

Gifts – The library’s budget is significantly supplemented by donations. If you would like to make a check payable to Manchester Public Library, please specify whether your gift is to be used for purchasing books & materials or is unrestricted. Gifts can be made to the general library fund or specified for the Children’s Room.

Commemoratives & Memorials – To honor friends and family, or memorialize a loved one, the Library is often named as the recipient of donations for the purchase of books with bookplates bearing the name of the honoree.

Sponsor a magazine or periodical – If your organization would benefit from a specific periodical, please consider becoming a sponsor. Sponsored titles have included Family Fun, Preservation Magazine, Value Line, Country Life.

Bequests - If you are considering mentioning Manchester Public Library in your will, we suggest the following language:
I hereby give and bequeath to the Trustees of the Manchester Public Library, Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA, the sum of ………… Dollars to have and to hold, to be used for the unrestricted purposes of the said library (alternatively, the income only of which shall be used for …………….. of the said library).

Manchester Public Library Foundation – The Library Foundation, a private, non-profit, 501c3 entity, was established to prepare for a library expansion project or other major capital plan. Gifts to the Foundation are for long-term improvements.

Donating New & Used Books – The Library accepts donations of new and used books. Books that are suitable for our collections will be added for the benefit of the community. Books that are not suitable, either because we already own them, or due to poor condition, will be passed on to the Friends of the Library for their annual book sale. (The Library accepts hardcover and paperback books, audiobooks, DVD & VHS movies, and music on compact disc. Because of space limits, we do not accept magazines, newspapers, encyclopedias, condensed books, equipment, or bric-a-brac.) Please do not leave book donations outside. While we cannot place a value on your donated books, we are happy to provide a receipt with the number of books donated for your tax records.

Friends of the Manchester Public Library – The Friends of the Library is an active non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the library’s collections and programs through membership, book sales, and donations. Since their formation in 1960, the Friends have contributed furnishings and equipment, museum memberships, special book collections including the leased books on CD and downloadable books, Credo on-line Reference, and Tumblebooks, and other services . Their major fundraiser is the summer book sale. Click here to learn more about the Friends. You can also pick up a membership envelop at the Library.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES – Manchester Public Library welcomes people who are interested in doing volunteer work, including shelving, material processing, posting fliers, and other helpful tasks. We do request that volunteers make a commitment for a minimum number of hours on a fixed schedule, so that we can rely on work getting done regularly. If you’d like to join our family of volunteers, please contact Rachael Theriault, Head of Adult Services at 978-526-2017.

ALL DONATIONS, whether to the Library, the Foundation, or the Friends, are tax deductible.
