An annual event held on or around Dr. Seuss’ birthday (which is March 2), the day is an excuse to curl up and finally finish that novel that’s been gathering dust on your nightstand. March at the Library

Manchester Reads 2008

Every winter since 2004 the Library has offered a town-wide reading experience called "Manchester Reads," first sponsored by a Library Services and Technology grant. The purpose of a community reads program is to promote literacy, social interaction, and weave together different elements of our town through discussion of a common topic. This year Abraham Lincoln is our theme. Whether you prefer fiction or non-fiction, we invite you to explore another controversial war, one that touched the town of Manchester 150 years ago.

The Civil War era statue, America Honoring Her Fallen Brave, is on display in the Reading Room, along with artifacts on loan from the Manchester Historical Society.

Employee of the Month

Craige McCoy

The Trustees would like to recognize the Library staff who provide the community with outstanding service. This month the spotlight is on Craige McCoy, Library custodian since 1991.  He is a 20 year veteran of the Manchester Police Force, and former part-time custodian at the Manchester Housing Authority since 1965.  Craige was a long time Manchester resident, until a recent move to Annisquam;  he remembers coming to the Library as a student to meet his friends.  Craige has seen a lot of changes at the Library, computerization, expansion of collections, maintenance both inside and out.  “The Trustees and the towns-people have invested a lot in maintaining the 120 year old building,” says Craige.  “Hours of operation and usage are high, requiring constant upkeep.”
